Overview
The interior of the M Series cars is either based on vinyl or leather upholstery, glued/fixed to foam sound deadening, this in turn as glued/fixed directly to the bodyshell/dashboard/seats.
The (original) seats were specially made by TVR, the dashboard has a fibreglass shell with a plywood instrument panel screwed into it, the centre console is also made from fibreglass & two piece inner door panels.
TVR tended to change their switches and layouts fairly frequently, so I hope to fill you in on each style, and combine this with the upcoming online store where you will be able to purchase these hard to find parts.
A little talked about feature which seems rather strange when first seen is a fibreglass panel covering a hole cut in the transmission tunnel. A "pocket" for storing small items in the carpet was pushed into this on the car I'm working on, but the panel if unscrewed could be used to access the handbrake linkage when fitting new cables. I have fabricated an aluminium panel which does away with the poorly fitting fibreglass one, and also sealed it with "dum-dum" putty to prevent vibration/fumes entering interior. I have made a similar reinforced panel above the differential - allowing access to this when topping up with oil, inspecting chassis, and (hopefully not too frequently) removing the differential - WITHOUT having to remove the bodyshell!
More soon.
I'm sure all of you who have an M Series or Taimar know what it's like to arrive at an evening out only to find you smell like you live in the garage! Well there are some reasonably easy mod's you can do to reduce the influx of exhaust/engine fumes....articles like this appearing weekly.
