Fumes inside the car (Engine, Fuel, Exhaust)
The way the bodyshell was designed to allow the gear lever & handbrake to work meant that there is a cut-out under the centre console. It's above the rear of the gearbox & is approx 50cm x 30cm. The centre console, although covering this, does little to prevent engine breather, fuel, & exhaust fumes from entering. Any time spent in the car with the engine running with a leak here will soon make your clothes smell, and can also make you feel ill if any of the leaks are more than tiny.
Owners have tried various ways to stop this, such as rubber sheeting, fiberglass under panels etc. I will cover this in more detail, as in recent years fumes are something more unusual. Back in the 70's to 90's a lot of cars suffered fumes, before catalytic converters were introduced. But there weren't many that suffered to the degree that the early TVRs did, due to lack of sealing.
